Action has now completed, with the help of a grant through the HCA called Platform for Life, conversion of an empty property in Chesterfield into specialist accommodation for young people. The site will accommodate 8 young people aged 18-24 who are in training, education or employment and will open on 1st June 2016.
The renovation of the site was assisted by a small number of HOPE operatives, as a pre-work opportunity for people who are struggling to gain relevant experience in a work environment. The renovations have gone smoothly and Action are delighted to be able to open this project three months ahead of schedule as a result. Action are working closely with partners including the North Derbyshire Ambition Housing Project, SCR Ambition, Chesterfield College and other local statutory and voluntary and community sector organisations working with young people to ensure that the project offers opportunities for those young people who are ready to engage in education, training and employment but who also need support with accessing appropriate housing. The project also has a training facility that can be used by partner agencies and the local community for a small fee.
In these times of reducing funding for some of our most vulnerable people in society, Action are proud to be able to offer a new service for local young people who need it.
