 Trustee - Liz Smith 2 Liz Smith – Interim CEO

Liz has recently joined Action as the interim Chief Executive, having previously being a Board Member since 2014. Whilst on the Board, Liz held roles as Vice Chair and Chair of the HR Sub-Committee.

Liz has over 25 years’ experience in organisational development & transformation, and management consultancy in the public, private and third sectors. Liz has worked at senior levels in local authorities as Head of Service, Executive Director and Deputy Chief Executive.  Liz was the chair of a Community Safety Partnership for over 5 years and has extensive experience of working across organisations and partnerships in both strategic and operational roles and particularly in delivering transformation and efficiencies.  More recently Liz worked as a management consultant in the Energy Efficiency sector providing services to domestic and commercial properties.

Liz moved from the public sector to the private sector in September 2013.  After a period doing voluntary work with a couple of charities Liz wanted an opportunity to use the knowledge she had gained in local government to work with a larger organisation providing services to vulnerable people and so joined the Board of Action June 2014. Recently Liz has been keen to dedicate more of her professional life to the public or charity sector and is thrilled to take up the role of Chief Executive.

 

Dave Palmer  Dave Palmer – Head of Housing & Asset Development

Dave has been with Action since 2010, holding roles in both Support and Asset Development before assuming his current role. Before joining Action, Dave was a Regimental Sergeant Major in the Royal Engineers and ran his own construction firm. Dave has been instrumental in delivering our move into developing homes – and is a passionate advocate of our HOPE methodology. Dave has led a huge number of building projects, but recent achievements include the refurbishment of the former Miners Institute in Clowne, a flagship development, alongside several other major projects.

 

Rebecca Slack  Rebecca Slack – Head of Support

Rebecca has a wide range of experience working both operationally and strategically in housing and housing support across both the voluntary and statutory sectors since the early 90’s.  She joined Action in January 2015 after working jointly at North East Derbyshire District Council and Bolsover District Council as the Housing Strategy & Growth Manager.  Rebecca Developed one of the first rent deposit schemes in the UK, working for a charity in Bolton, which became an example of good practice for newly emerging rent deposit schemes across the country in the 90’s.

 

Jill Thompson  Jill Thompson – Head of Finance

Jill has been with Action since 2007, as Action’s Head of Finance.   Jill joined from Rotherham MBC, and previously worked at South Yorkshire Probation.  She’s overseen major changes in the operating environment of the charity, and been a steady presence in our leadership team since joining.  Jill holds the position of Company Secretary at Action and also leads our Business Support Team.  Jill oversaw the implementation of our housing software system, as well as the centralisation of our administration services.  Jill has an Advanced Diploma In Management accounting and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.  Jill is a member of the  South Yorkshire Local Pensions Board.
